Cornelius Commissioners will meet Monday for a meeting that will include a pre-meeting presentation on revenues and expenses for Fiscal 2013, discussion of a plans for adding sidewalks on Torrence Chapel Road, and a vote on minor updates to the Code of Ordinances. The board also plans a closed session to discuss an unnamed “economic development opportunity” and a legal matter.
The pre-meeting begins at 6pm in Room 204 at Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., Cornelius. The regular meeting begins at 7pm. The board also meets at 8am at the Acropolis restaurant for an agenda review.
The board is scheduled to hear presentations from Rodney Short on two organizations where he represents Cornelius, the Ada Jenkins Center and the MI-Connection Communications System.
Commissioners also are being asked to re-appoint Julie Miller to the Historic Preservation Commission, and approve a $26,500 contract with Martin Starnes to conduct the town’s annual financial audi.
The board will vote on minor revisions to the Code of Ordinances, as part of an ongoing review and update process. The board also will look at road widening and sidewalk options for Torrence Chapel Road.
One thing not on the agenda next week will be the board vacancy. One seat is open since the board elevated Mayor Pro Tem Lynette Rinker to mayor, in place of Jeff Tarte, who resigned to become a state senator. Mayor Rinker said Friday that board members are still interviewing candidates.
Six residents have applied for the vacancy. They are former Commissioner Thurman Ross, who narrowly lost his bid for re-election in 2011, as well as Robert Ageenko, Kevin Davis, Jim Duke, Peter McCormack, Bruce Trimbur, and Mike Montanaro. See our Jan. 8 report, “6 apply for board vacancy, including ex-commish Ross.”
